As the 2023 holiday season approaches, it's a time for gratitude and giving, and what better way to express your thanks than by supporting those in need right here in Colorado Springs. In this blog, we'll explore the many meaningful Thanksgiving donation opportunities available in our community, helping you make a positive impact and spread the spirit of Thanksgiving to those who could use a helping hand.

TURKEY DRIVES

  • Care and Share (Take a Turkey to Work Day) - On November 17th, we invite you to participate in Take a Turkey to Work Day. From 6AM to 6PM, the dedicated Care and Share team, along with volunteers, will be stationed at select King Soopers stores in Colorado Springs and Pueblo, collecting frozen turkey donations. You can contribute to the cause in various ways, whether it's by making an online donation, organizing a turkey drive at your workplace, or personally delivering a frozen turkey to one of our collection locations. Please click on the link above for more information on how you can contribute.

  • Springs Rescue Mission (Colorado Springs Turkey Collection) - Each year, Springs Rescue Mission hosts a Thanksgiving event, providing a hot meal and a sense of respite to those in need. To make this possible, they require 800 turkey donations. On November 11th, you can drop off turkeys on our campus from 8AM to 5PM. These turkeys will be used for the Thanksgiving meal and distributed to families in need throughout the holiday season. Please click on the link for more information on this opportunity.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

    • Feeding America (Thanksgiving Volunteer Opportunity) - There are several meaningful, local ways to contribute, including sorting and packing food intended for Thanksgiving meals, providing assistance to families during their visits, delivering meals to vulnerable individuals, or participating in meal preparation and service at a soup kitchen or community gathering. If you prefer to assist from the comfort of your home, consider initiating a virtual Thanksgiving food drive. Visit the link above to find a Thanksgiving volunteer opportunity in your area.

    • Meals on Wheels (Meal Deliver Service to Seniors) - Meals on Wheels is a volunteer service that includes delivering meals and friendly greetings to homebound seniors. Typically, this involves picking up meals at a central location and delivering them along a predetermined route directly to the homes of several seniors in your area. Once you're done, you return the delivery packaging items and get back on your way. This role is vital as the senior population, particularly those aged 85 and above, is the fastest-growing segment in America. Learn more about this opportunity by clicking on the link above.

    • YMCA & Ronald McDonald House Charities (Turkey Trot 5k) - For years, the YMCA Turkey Trot 5K and Kids' Tiny Trot have stood as beloved family holiday customs. This annual 5K draws in more than 4,000 participants, marking the exciting start to their Thanksgiving Day festivities. Notably, all the proceeds generated from the Turkey Trot 5K go towards supporting the YMCA and aiding families or individuals facing hardship. There are tons of in-person volunteer opportunities available for the race. Click on the link above to see how you can get involved.

As we witness the growth and ongoing projects, there's much to be excited about in Colorado Springs.
