Colorado is renowned for its stunning fall foliage, particularly the golden aspen trees that paint the landscape with hues of yellow and orange. There are numerous places across the state where you can witness the vibrant colors of autumn. Our Cutting Edge, Realtors team recommends the following places to see Colorado's fall colors on full display.

  • Aspen, Colorado - Perhaps the most famous destination for fall foliage in Colorado, Aspen lives up to its name. The town is surrounded by groves of aspen trees that turn brilliant shades of yellow and gold in the fall. The Maroon Bells, just outside of Aspen, is an iconic spot for photography.

  • Rocky Mountain National Park - This park offers a variety of elevations, which means you can catch fall colors at different times throughout the season. Lower elevations like Bear Lake and Moraine Park, tend to peak in September, while the high country, like Trail Ridge Road, peaks in early October.

  • Kebler Pass - Known for having one of the largest stands of aspen trees in North America, Kebler Pass, near Crested Butte, Colorado is a spectacular viewpoint for the vibrant colors of fall. The area is covered in a sea of brilliant yellow and gold aspens.

  • San Juan Skyway - This scenic byway, which includes the Million Dollar Highway, offers breathtaking vistas of the San Juan Mountains and passes through charming towns like Ouray and Telluride. The aspen trees along this route turn vivid shades of yellow and orange.

  • Guanella Pass - Located not far from Denver, Guanella Pass provides easy access to a beautiful display of fall colors. The road takes you through dense aspen groves and there are hiking trails for a closer look.

  • Cripple Creek, Colorado - This historic mining town in southern Colorado offers fall colors combined with a dose of Old West charm. The aspen trees on the hillsides surrounding the town turn beautiful shades of amber.

  • Rifle Falls State Park - This lesser-known gem, located in Western Colorado, becomes even more enchanting in the fall season. Rifle Falls State Park is famous for its three stunning waterfalls. In the fall, the foliage transforms into vibrant shades of red, orange, and yellow, creating a breathtaking backdrop for the waterfalls.

  • Poudre Canyon - Just northwest of Fort Collins, Poudre Canyon offers a scenic drive along the Cache la Poudre River, surrounded by aspens and other deciduous trees that light up in the fall.

Remember that the timing of the fall colors can vary from year to year depending on factors like temperature and rainfall, so it's a good idea to check with your local resources for current conditions and peak color dates. Also, consider taking hikes or scenic drives in these areas to fully immerse yourself in the beauty of our state.
